Robert Dudley will take over as BP’s new CEO from October 1 ousting Tony Hayward who was widely criticized for his mishandling of the Gulf Oil Spill.

The rumors were in air for last many days that BP is going to replace Tony Hayward in the wake of record 2nd quarter loss of $17 billion while BP is left with around $32.2 billion charges for covering the costs of Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

While Robert Dudley is an industry veteran who has a vast experience of the industry but beyond this qualification, Robert Dudley is an American and BP board was desperately looking for an American who might help them rebuilding their strained relations with Obama administration and locals at Gulf of Mexico? The answer came in the shape of Robert Dudley who holds an American passport and has spent his childhood just 80 miles away from the Gulf of Mexico.

According to BP sources, the decision of replacing Tony Hayward with Robert Dudley was made by mutual agreement.
