California Earthquake: A Little Damage But Huge Fear
The 4.4- magnitude California earthquake had its epicenter at Pico Rivera-California according to United Sates Geological Survey Department. The epicenter is said being situated around 11 miles from Los Angeles Civic Center. According to Andre Gougis, the Los Angeles County Fire Department supervisor their agency is surveying the vicinity to find out any damage but they have not received any report for damage.
Jessica Sigala, the USGS geophysicist suggested that commercial and residential buildings along with other infrastructure should be strong enough to hold such type of earthquakes, and for that reason we do not find substantial damage but shaking although it was strong enough to pop out books from your shelves and breaking your windows.
She further added that Californian may witness some aftershocks but they would not be of initial magnitude.
The early morning quake not only shook the Los Angeles but also its surrounding towns at about 4 a.m. when most of the Californians were still in their beds.
One of the residents reported that he felt a sharp jolt that lasted only for twice a second but it left him drained of blood with fear.
The epicenter of the quake is just four miles away from the 1987′s 5.9-magintude earthquake that left eight dead.
The last major California quake was of Northridge’s 1994 quake that caused the death of 72 people and an infrastructural damage of about $ 20 billion.
