Considered by many as one of the worst-kept game development secrets, SEGA and Creative Assembly finally officially admitted that “Shogun 2: Total War” is being developed at the studios.
SEGA of America Inc. and SEGA Europe Ltd. Announced that “Shogun 2: Total War” will be entering the markets by 2011.
“Shogun 2: Total War” is the sequel to the original “Shogun: Total War” game title and would be the sixth installment of the award winning Total War series.
The original “Shogun: Total War” title, developed by Creative Assembly, was released in 2000 under the banner of Electronic Arts. The game was based on a real time strategy engine and was initially meant to be a 2D game. But due to rise of 3D cards the game was moved to a 3D engine.
The original game was followed by an expansion pack titled Mongol Invasion. The Total War franchise then churned out titles like Medieval: Total War, Rome: Total War, Medieval 2: Total War, Empire: Total War and Napoleon: Total War to become one of the most awards winning gaming franchise.
The latest title in the series “Shogun 2: Total War” is based in feudal Japan which is now ruled by various clans settled in different regions.
In the game the player has to choose one of the Daimyo (clan leader) and has to conquer, the once united, Japan using diplomatic, economics and warfare strategies.
The game will feature fully enhanced 3D land and sea battles while also containing a brand new AI system. The game also features seasonal mode which will provide the necessary tactical dimension to the game.
