ITunes U an application by Apple that allows its users to download study material i.e. lectures, language lessons, audio-books and other educational materials including movies has recently hit the milestone of 300 million downloads.
ITune U is a content distribution system for university students, introduced by Apple three years ago and since its launch in 2007, over 800 universities have joined this content distribution system. Many universities have their iTune U sites, while over half of these distribute their content through ITune store.
Up till today ITune U content distribution system have over 3.5 million audio, video and educational files from these universities accessible all around the world.
ITune U also provides option to the universities, if they want their material and lectures to be accusable by everyone or only by their own students and other members of their educational community.
ITune U offers the facility of downloading educational material directly in IPod or IPhone using Wi-Fi or through ITune Store to its users, but this is not a limitation, all this content is also accessible using computer and Mac Machines.
In the beginning ITune U did not get much appreciation by the users and ITunes U was downloaded by less than 100 million users in its first year, but over the span of last eight months the popularity of ITune U increased and now company has accounted that ITune U has reached the milestone of 300 million downloads.
