The football world cup host countries would in future be selected through votes of all the 208 member association. As announced by the FIFA president Sepp Blatter.
Previously, till now, the decision that which country would host the World cup was made by the executive committee consisting of 24 members.
However due to the recent controversy that Qatar is being awarded the 2022 world cup whereas Russia will be given the 2018 world cup, has resulted in this decision to be put forward that the host country would be decided by the votes of all the member associations.
Blatter said that “I want to give more power to the national associations.”
Moreover he said “In the future the World Cup will be decided by the FIFA congress. The executive committee will create a shortlist – but will make no recommendations only a list – and the congress will decide on the venue.”
Previously, The ethics committee at FIFA cleared Sepp Blatter, a Swiss national who has been leading FIFA since 1998, while it accused and suspended the Vice President Jack Warner and executive committee member Mohamed Bin Hammam (who was also standing for the post of president) of corruption therefore leaving Blatter unopposed for the presidential elections scheduled for today.
