Willa Ford, also known as Mandy, the wife of Mike Modano got the center stage of Mike Modano’s introductory news conference that lasted for more than an hour at Joe Louis Arena.
Mike Modano and Red Wings have strike a deal for one year of worth $1.25 million along with $500000 performance based bonuses thus ending a one-month courtship between Red Wings and Mike Modano that began with Mike Modano flying from Dallas to Detroit to negotiate his deal with Red Wings.
All smiling Mike Modano said that Willa Ford was perhaps No.1 fan that pushed him towards playing as she wanted him to go to Detroit and at the back of her mind was the idea of proving that people were wrong about Mike as he still has hockey left in him and that he still can play. Willa Ford really has provided a good push to Mike in Detroit’s direction.
Mike Modano was happy for being a fit piece in Wings championship contender plan and he said that he felt himself physically fine for playing hockey.
Taking her wife Willa Ford’s advice Mike Modano opted for Red Wings and he added that it would be a fresh start for him that will help him rejuvenate adding that it is a clean slate and you have to go there and may be have a great final year with a win.
Mike said that he also went in talks with San Jose and Minnesota but Willa Ford and guys at Red Wings were the real force behind his moving to Detroit.
It was also revealed by Mike that his mother has offered him to have her basement, but Mike said that he would like to find a new place for him and Willa Ford to live in Detroit.
