The reports which were sounding more like a rumor yesterday have been confirmed today. Seahawks has traded Seneca Wallace to Browns. Seneca Wallace has waited for years to get a shot to play as a starting QB in NFL; with Browns he might get that chance. Seneca Wallace will now reunite with coach Mike Holmgren in Cleveland.
According to the details, the deal was closed on Monday evening in which Browns acquired Seneca Wallace from Seahawks for an unrevealed draft choice in 2011. The Seneca Wallace deal clearly reflects that Seahawks is now moving in a new direction under the guidance of its new coach Peter Carroll. As Seneca Wallace is no more in the team, Seahawks will likely bring in a QB who could groom under Matt Hasselbeck and compete with him.
On the other side, Browns’ acquisition of Seneca Wallace also gives us a hint about their direction to. Seemingly, coach Mike Holmgren is pushing the Cleveland towards his familiar West Coast offense and he could really use Seneca Wallace to help him make that transition.
29-years-old Seneca Wallace was acquired by Seattle in the fourth round of 2003 draft. Seneca Wallace played really well as a starter to fill-in for Hasselbeck who went out due to a back injury in the middle of 2008 season, but has struggled during last season.
Seneca Wallace roster number at Seahawks (No. 15) is now free and it also happens to be the number worn by Brandon Marshall of Denver. So, is this a coincidence or a signal?
