Greives Vasquez for a moment stopped the heartbeats of thousands of fans of Maryland and Duke Teams as he aimed for the hoop.
Such was the impression of the Maryland’s point guard’s on last night’s game between Maryland Terrapins and Duke Blue Devils.
In the last minute of the game, Vasquez found himself with ball and instead of passing one of his teammate for an easy shot, he bounced the ball a couple of times and then decided to go for a bizarre attempt from the corner of the court while struggling to keep his balance.
The Terrapins were up 71-69 at the time and the fans held on to their breath as the ball spun and bounced on the hoop and then landed inside the net. The crowd went berserk as it virtually sealed the win with time nearly over.
The match then ended with an upset win of Maryland over Duke with the scoreboard reading 79-72. As soon as the official whistle was blown to declare the end of the game the fans swarmed onto the court to cheer the Maryland team and especially Vasquez who lead the point scoring with 20 points and 5 assists.
For Greivis Vasquez what the made the last night even more special was the fact that it was his senior night. And what perfect way it ended. The usual chatterbox, as Vasquez is known as, was himself short of words last night. All he said was, “It’s unbelievable”.
The terrapins are now tied with the Devils at the top in ACC rankings this season. Both the teams have just one more game to go and with the title on the line it’s going to be one hell of a weekend.
