Brittney Griner Punches Opposing Player On Court

Baylor University’s star basketball player, Brittney Griner, is likely to face the music of disciplinary committee after she punched Texas Tech’s Jordan Barncastle in last night’s match.

Baylor were up with a score of 55-39 of which 21 were earned by Girner alone. After a little tangling up with Girner, Barncastle was moving away when out of nowhere a punch appeared and landed on her face. Brittney Griner was immediately pulled from the court by the officials with nearly 9 minutes still to go in the match. The Lady Bears won the match with the score 69-60 on the board.

Brittney Griner will most probably be now penalized for her ‘punch’ by the Big 12 Conference and Baylor University’s authorities. But most importantly she would first be facing her coach, Kim Mulkey, who has said that she will deal with her personally too and termed the incident ‘ugly’ for women’s basketball.

Griner has been a heartthrob of many basketball fans since her high school days. At a height of 6’8” and having a wingspan of 86 inches, she is one of those rare women who can dunk. During her school years she was popular for her dunking ability and she used to repeat the feat often.

After joining college, she produced her first dunk of her collegiate career, last year in November. In January this year she was in the headlines by becoming the only second woman to dunk more than once in a game.

Griner was named as the ‘No.1’ high school player in the country by Rivals.com in 2009. During the same year she was chosen as the 2009 State Farm/WBCA high School Player of the Year by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association while also featuring in the 2009 McDonald’s All-American Girls basketball team.
