Bernard Lagat won men’s Wanamaker Mile

Bernard Lagat, an American athlete left the Madison Square Garden spell bound by winning the eighth men’s Wanamaker Mile in the 103rd Millrose Games. He defeated Eamonn Coghlan and made a new record in the history of indoor race in Millrose Games. Another Kenyan athlete Asbel Kiprop was ranked second in the race for a time period of 3mins 58.03secs and Andy Baddeley a British runner held the third position.

This Kenyan-born athlete and runner has already won medals twice in the 1,500 meters at past Olympics, within the time period of 3 minutes, 56.34 seconds, now he won the race against Eamonn Coghlan, a three-times Olympic winner and ex- world champion in the 5000 meters.

35-year-old Bernard Lagat made great achievements in the world championships for year 2007 while winning 1,500 and 5,000 meters. He also appeared successful for the US Olympic Trials in the 1500m and 5000m in 2008 but failed to participate in the final to the Beijing Olympics for 1500 meters due to an injury he received while training. Last year he again started the succession of his victories and won silver and a bronze medal in the World Championships for 5000m in Berlin.

Lagat said he is very happy for his triumph and to him it’s just like the winning of Olympics.

Christian Cantwell, Olympic silver medalist for the year 2008 and the ruling world champion won the men’s shot put with 21.95 meters and left behind Reese Hoffa (20.59m). Olympic silver medal winner for two times Terrence Trammell won the 60-meter hurdles.
