Illegal Immigration, SB1070 and Justice Department

Illegal Immigration and Arizona’s SB1070 to combat illegal immigration and Justice Department’s effort to seek in injunction at the eleventh hour has developed into such a triangle that may reshape American constitution.

Courthouse in downtown Phoenix was witnessing a case of its own kind as both supporter and opponents of the SB1070 were there to be cross-examined by Judge Susan Bolton. Judge Susan Bolton can now issue a final ruling any time before July 29.

SB1070 gives police an authority to stop, question and potentially depart any person to whom they consider reasonably suspect of being an illegal immigrant.

Law against illegal immigration is supported by most of the Arizonans and a large number of American populations have raised concerns that it may play its part in proliferation of racial discrimination by the state police.

While White House or in other words Justice Department’s lawyers argued against the law of illegal immigration establishing that immigration is solely a government’s responsibility and state laws should not trump federal rules and US Constitution.

The Arizonan officials established quite opposite stance than federal lawyers saying that Arizona is overrun by illegal immigration that has risen crime rate in the state and also has strained the state resources. They further argue that a lenient federal immigration policy at its southern borders have forced them to take this measure.

Outside the court, the demonstrators were shouting slogans against the illegal immigration law SB1070 with bullhorns and drumbeats making the lawyers in the courtroom struggle to be heard in the presence of such annoying noise.

According to a recent survey, more than 60% of US population supports Arizona’s law against illegal immigration since it was passed in April this year. A rough estimation suggests that there are 460000 illegal immigrants in Arizona.
