Uncle Buck’s Director To Receive Oscar Tribute

John Hughes, the legendary filmmaker, will receive a special dedication at this year’s Oscar Award Ceremony. The director and writer who is famous for a number of movies such as Uncle Buck, Sixteen candles, Farris Bueller’s Day Off and Home Alone died last year in August.

Uncle Buck was one of the few films which were written, produced and directed by John Hughes. It was release in 1989 and its genre is family comedy. The film stars John Candy who plays the character of ‘Uncle Buck’ in the movie alongside the inspiring child star Macaulay Culkin.

The plot of the movie starts with Bob Russell, played by Garrett Brown and his wife Cindy, played by Elaine Bromka, along with their three kids decide to move to Chicago form Indianapolis. Though the two younger children, 8-year old Miles, played by Culkin, and 6-year old Maizy, played by Gaby Hoffman, accept Indianapolis as their new home but 15-year old Tia, played by Jean Louisa Kelly, is still bitter with her parents about their shifting.

One fine day Bob and Cindy receive a call from Cindy’s aunt who informs her that her father has had a heart attack. Both Bob and Cindy decide to go back to Indianapolis while inviting Bob’s brother to babysit the kids while they are gone. And in walks ‘Uncle Buck’. Buck is a heavy smoker and earns his livelihood by cheating in horse races yet over the time he manages to win over the three children’s love and respect. Though Tia really gives him a hard time but she too gives in, in the end.

Uncle Buck stayed the No.1 movie at the box office for 4 years in U.S and Canada and became the 20th top grossing film the world over.
