Recently, Starbucks and many other chain restaurants are bashed by some activists against the ‘open carry’ movement. These activists are protesting against Starbucks which allows open carry to its customers. Open Carry is a term used for carrying licensed arms openly and in a visible form. The advocates for gun-control are asking businesses like Starbucks to ban guns in their shops.
Starbucks issued a statement on Wednesday defending that it will comply by the state laws addressing open carry. Starbucks also bemoaned for being thrust into this debate by gun-control advocators. The company said that these activists should not bring businesses in these debates as these policies related to open carry should be addressed in senates and not in their stores.
Previously, many gun control activists have issued petitions and have demanded Starbucks to make coffeehouses gun-free.
Starbucks’ statement came after some open carry advocates came in the store carrying guns to test the company’s policy after several petitions were made by gun-control activists to Starbucks.
Starbucks’ statement makes quite sense. If people want to prevent gun violence, they should present their suggestions to lawmakers, instead of forcing businesses to make new policies. In U.S. forty three states have legalized and secured the right to carry arms in some form, though these states do not directly address open carry but no government permit is required in these states to open carry guns.
