SB1070 Arizona Immigration Law Squashed

Judge Susan Bolton’s preliminary injunction against few sections of SB1070 has temporarily blocked the most controversial Arizona Immigration Law to go into effect on Thursday.

The most debated SB1070 calls the police officers to check a person’s immigration status thus raising a huge concern within the state and at federal level.

Judge Susan Bolton issued the injunction in response to a lawsuit entered by Justice Department against SB1070.

In the wake of Judge Susan Bolton’s injunction and Governor Jan Brewer’s vows to appeal against the injunction asking the court for a speedy review, the legal experts are predicting the case would end up before Supreme Court.

SB1070, the immigration law designed to seek and deport illegal immigrants from Arizona, a state that is considered a principal gateway for illegal border crossing brought huge criticism and support.

The controversial SB1070 renewed the calls for overhauling of the federal immigration policy while it fetched rebuke from President Obama and Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. both of them are of the view that immigration policy is a federal concern and not of an individual state whereas seven other Latin American nations including Mexico backed SB1070 and Arizona.

The ruling has come at a time when 1200 National Guard members were scheduled to report to the Southwest border of Arizona to assist federal and local agencies.

Judge Susan Bolton said that preserving the status quo through preliminary injunction is less harmful than allowing state laws that are likely pre-empted by federal law to be enforced.
