Washington (BuzzTab) – Giving rise to the recent blows to Washington’s relationship with Pakistan, American officials say Pakistan failed yet another chance to prove it could be trusted to go after U.S. enemies on its soil by deliberately or unconsciously tipping off militants at two more bomb-building factories in its tribal areas, facilitating the suspected extremists with enough time to flee.
Late on Saturday June 18, 2011, U.S. officials said they had shared the two sites’ locations in the tribal areas with the Pakistani government. The Americans monitored the area with satellite and unmanned drones to see what would happen.
According to American media, whether intentionally or inadvertently, within a day or so after sharing the information, the Americans watched the militants depart, taking any weapons or bomb-making materials with them, in the very similar way the militants had done the first two times. Whereas, only after the militants had departed, the U.S. officials say they saw the Pakistani military visiting each site.
It is being said the Americans are strongly of the view that either the tips are coming through the local tribal elders that Pakistan insists on informing of the raids, or lower-level Pakistani officials are directly tipping the militants off to the imminent raids.
Now, U.S. officials are pushing Pakistan to keep the location of such targets secret prior to the operations. However, Pakistani government says their troops cannot enter the lawless regions without giving the locals notice.
