Forbes magazine released its annual list of 400 richest Americans and as usual Christy Walton ranked in the top 10 richest people of America.
Christy Walton is one of the 42 women who are ranked among the 400 richest people of United States. But a local tabloid has listed Christy Walton in the meanest billionaires of America too. According to the newspaper, 40 richest CEOs of America promised to give at least half of their wealth to charity during their lifetime. These 40 CEOs included Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, and their likes. Their names were published in national and international newspapers along with their pledges. But Christy Walton and her wealthy relatives have refused to promise any such thing. According to the newspaper, Christy Walton refused to become a part of Warren Buffett and Bill Gates’ The Living Pledge.
54-year-old Christy Walton has assets worth of $21 billion. Christy Walton inherited a large part of Wal-Mart superstore chain and First Solar from her husband John T. Walton. Her family members Jim Walton, S Robson Walton, and Alice Walton, who are also billionaires and each of them have assets of worth $19 billion, have not given a positive reply to the call of The Living Pledge.
The newspaper has even asked the consumers to think before shopping at the Wal-Mart Superstore as a protest to the ‘meanness’ of Christy Walton.
So, does Christy Walton really deserve to be called mean? And should we, the regular customers of Wal-Mart, stop going to our favorite superstore to protests against Christy Walton? Share your thoughts.
