Major Garrett, the Fox New Channel chief White House correspondent has shown his consent of leaving the network for National Journal. Major Garrett had been with Fox News Channel for eight years but he has decided to leave the channel to be a congressional correspondent at National Journal.
Major Garrett had been working for Washington Times, U.S. News and World Report and who was on CNN before joining Fox said that it was his return to his roots, print journalism.
Major Garrett who joined Fox in 2002 added that he has been seen and heard but now he wants to be read.
While Major Garrett is leaving Fox New in the next week, the network has announced no replacements for Major Garrett adding that its other White House reporters will takeover the duties of Major Garrett. Wedell Goler and Mike Emanuel were the other reporters with Major Garrett on the White House assignments.
Major Garrett has decided to leave the channel at a moment when Fox was granted the most sought front row seat at White House briefing rooms after Helen Thomas leaves Hearst News Service.
Major Garrett further added that Fox has promoted him at every step and it has helped him a lot in getting his new job.
In the recent past he called himself a ‘conscientious objector’ when Fox News Channel and White House were at daggers drawn and White House declared Fox a wing of the Republican Party.
Major Garrett’s interview with Obama in November is considered the root cause of drift of relations between the White House and Fox but Major Garrett has cleared that his leaving has nothing to do with the political controversy that engulfed Fox News Channel.
Major Garrett added that if anyone can not swing in news business then he will be found out rapidly saying that he always tried to do the best reporting whether he was at CNN or US News or Fox.
