Los Angeles was jolted by an earthquake early in the morning when people were still in the bed. The intensity of the earthquake was 4.4 on the rector scale. But there is no report of loss of life or any severe damage.

But people were frightened who took it as continuation of recent American Continent earthquakes which jolted Haiti and Chile. The epicenter of the earthquake was one mile away from Pico Rivera, California and almost ten miles away from L.A.

L.A. Fire Department representative Andre Gougis told the media that they were having survey of the area but no loss has been reported. Jessica Sigala who is a geophysicist told the media that the buildings and other structures should be equipped to withstand earthquakes of this intensity.

She told that the earthquake of this intensity is not much severe and can only drop few books from a shelf or damage windows.

Aftershocks are being anticipated but those will be of low intensity. Now a worrisome question arises in the minds of people whether this jolt could be a fore-warning before a major earth quake like in Haiti and Chile.

But experts are of the view that there always is a chance of earthquake anywhere but, practically speaking, there is no such chance of earth quake in near future.

She suggested that this earthquake was not a continuation of other earthquakes in the American continent. But she stressed upon the fact that everyone should be prepared for any bleak possibility.
