While Toyota is battling with the quality issues in various models of different cars, GM also voluntarily recalls 1.3 million compact cars because of possibility in cars’ power steering failure.
According to the details, General Motors (GM) is making the recall because of power steering problems which has been linked to about 14 crashes. GM announces that it’s making the recall voluntarily and that the recall is effective in North America only. The company also said that four models of its vehicles will be included in the recall. The recall would affect the owners of Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G5, Pontiac Pursuit, and Pontiac 4.
The fault lies in the motor of power steering which could fail. Because of the fault the car would have to use greater steering effort at low speeds. GM has put the blame on a supplier which is partially owned by Toyota!
GM executives have reportedly said that the supplier didn’t meet all the requirements for reliability and durability of the vehicles and mentioned that it will be decided soon who takes the financial responsibilities of this recall.
The U.S. transport safety board says that they have been investigating into the matter since January 27 and have received 1,100 complaints regarding this problem.
The GM recall includes Chevrolet Cobalt of model year 2005-2010 and model year 2007-2010 Pontiac G5 sold in U.S. only. In addition to these cars, the GM recall also include model year 2005-2006 of Pontiac Pursuit sold in Canada and model year 2005-2006 of Pontiac G4 sold in Mexico.
