The famed heavy metal vocalist, Ronnie James Dio has passed away at the age of 67 on Sunday, May 16th due to a stomach cancer. Ronnie was the lead singer of the bands – Rainbow and Dio
Hi wife, Wendy Dio has confirmed the news of her husband’s death that occurred on Sunday. His publicist Maureen O’Connor told the media that Dio died in Los Angeles due to the stomach cancer, he was battling with.
Ronnie James Dio was one of the acclaimed singers in hard rock and heavy metal. He was diagnosed with the disease last year in November 2009. Ronnie had been the leading singer of Rainbow, Black Sabbath and his own band Dio. His classic renditions – Rainbow Rising, Heaven & Hell (Black Sabbath), Mob Rules (Black Sabbath) and Holy Diver (Dio) would be remembered, cherished and applauded forever.
Ronnie James Dio reunited with his ex Black Sabbath bandmates – Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice. And together they all dolled up a tour in 2007 and the band released the studio soundtrack, ‘The Devil You Know’ last year.
Hearing the news of his death, the condolences from the entertainment fraternity and the people from other walks of life have started pouring in.
“I’ve broken altogether after my husband passed away at 7:45 a.m. on 16th May”, says wife Wendy Dio in her statement.
“Ronnie was well aware of the huge affection and love of the people in his surroundings”, she further tells.
The rock fraternity paid homage to the luminous singer in messages:
“Apart from his marvelous singing skills, Ronnie was a brilliant gentleman and a gem of a person. We will miss him a lot”, says Kiss.
“Ronnie’s death is a big loss”, Scot Ian says.
Countless condolences have been coming up since last day since Ronnie James Dio was the center of attraction to all.
