Baby Formula Recall, Abbott Laboratories recalls Similac

Baby Formula Recall by Drug maker Abbott Laboratories on Wednesday will result in recalling millions of Similac container-Abbott’s best selling infant formula under speculations of insect parts contamination.

Baby Formula Recall, a voluntary action by Abbott Laboratories will affect around 5 million Similac-brand formulas that were sold in USA, Guam, Puerto Rico and few Caribbean countries.

Speaking about its Baby Formula Recall, the company has said that the product under question may contain a small beetle or its larvae that could cause stomachache to infants along with digestion problems.

Baby Formula Recall however will not affect any of Abbott’s liquid formulas or other products.

The spokesperson for Abbott Laboratories, Melissa Brotz said that company discovered some insects in the formula at its one section of manufacturing plant at Michigan. It would be interesting to know that Abbott manufactures Similac at different locations in U.S.

Melissa Brotz also added that Abbott has been consulting with FDA for any immediate heath risk from the contaminated Baby Formula.

Baby Formula Recall applies to all products that were sold in plastic containers, cans of different sizes including 8, 12.4 and 12.9 ounce cans.

By entering lot numbers of their products online the consumers can determine whether they have the products that are subject to Baby Formula Recall.

Baby Formula Recall will cost Abbott a $100 million loss.
