Lorcaserin helped about half the users lose their weight by few pounds and keep the weight off from their bodies for as long as one year without imposing any health risks that some other diet pills usually cause.

According to the details, a study has revealed that Lorcaserin, a diet pill manufactured by Arena Pharmaceutical, is one of the three diet pills of new generation which is helping the users to shed some weight and keep from gaining it for almost a year.

One of these three weight loss drugs will be getting a review from FDA on Thursday while the remaining two will get one later this year. The study tells that use of Lorcaserin helped half of the people to lose several pounds from their weight over the course of one year.

The rate at which users achieve the weight loss is more than twice the rate achieved by the use of other diet pills, says the study.

If approved, the round-shaped, blue-colored Lorcaserin tablet would be the first diet pill in last twelve years which doesn’t cause health risks to its users. Lorcaserin targets body the same way banned ‘fen-phen’ does but in a safer way. Because of these advantages, Arena is hoping that it would get approval from the FDA soon.

Arena also says that the study would help boost the sale of Lorcaserin. The results of the study can be found in New England’s Journal of Medicine. The study tested the drugs on more than 3,000 obese people.
