TNT launched its brand new drama ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ last night and instantly the show created a great buzz among the media critics.
A huge tide of reviews and expert views on the first episode of Rizzoli & Isles have hit the World Wide Web overnight. Comparisons are being made, script is being scrutinized, performances by the leads have been criticized, and forecasts about the future of the show have been made.
The show, which is featuring two female characters based on the work of Tess Gerritsen – a best-selling author, is being widely compared to Cagney & Lacey. But is Rizzoli & Isles really an imitation of the above-mentioned show or other crime dramas? Here’re the thoughts of Sasha Alexander on the new TNT drama series. Alexander is portraying the character of Maura Isles in Rizzoli & Isles.
Maura Isles is a female medical examiner who aids Jane Rizzoli in her crime investigations. In a recent interview to an entertainment magazine Sasha Alexander talks about the lead characters of Rizzoli & Isles.
Recalling a scene Alexander tells that the beauty of Rizzoli & Isles is that both the female leads are strong and have expertise in their respective fields – yet they have this side in their personalities which is vulnerable (pointing to the scene when Jane is scared about the serial killer and ends up at Maura’s house and confessing her fear to Maura). Alexander also applauds the fact that Rizzoli & Isles is not about two best friends who work together but is actually about two women from very different backgrounds who are working together and trying to know each other.
Sasha Alexander also throws light on the personality differences of Rizzoli & Isles. She tells that Maura Isles beats to her own drum which is frustrating for Jane Rizzoli. Jane Rizzoli, on the other hand, is afraid of being judged by people and would confess in future episodes that she’s never comfortable with people as they judge on her every move.
TNT is all about strong, brave female characters. And as they say, ‘they know drama’, so we’re very much looking forward to Rizzoli & Isles. We are hoping that Rizzoli & Isles won’t meet the fate of other boring, surreal crime dramas.
