Diane Arbus, the much popular photographer of the bygone era, was born on March 14th 1923 in New York, USA. Diane was not only a renowned photographer but also was a writer whose content used to be read and applauded like her photography.

Her photography – revolving around the deviant people like giants, transvestites, nudist and circus performers – used to be liked by the people from all walks of life. She was much famous for black and white square photographs of abnormal and marginal people. The ones who were close to her said that Arbus once uttered that she was much afraid that she would be known as the photographer of freaks. And it is a fact as well that this term has been widely used time and again to depict about her.

Diane Arbus had the distinction of being the first American to have her photographs been displayed at the Venice Biennale in 1972. Unfortunately this could not happen in her life, as this took place a year after she committed the suicide.

A number of people viewed traveling exhibitions of Diane’s works in 1972-1979. During the era of 2003-2006, Arbus’ works emerged the central talk of another major traveling exhibition, ‘Diane Arbus Revelations’. A motion picture titled ‘Fur’ that starred the sexy voluptuous lady of the film trade Nicole Kidman essaying the role of Diane Arbus in the flick got released in 2006 and spelled magic with the audience. The movie portrayed the fictional life of Diane.

She got married very early in life. Diane was in love with Allan Arbus, who was her childhood sweetheart. Both tied the knot in 1941, when Diane Arbus was just 18 years old. The marriage stayed on well till 1958, as both separated the same year and were divorced in 1969.

On July 26th 1971, Diane Arbus committed suicide by slashing her wrists with a razor.
