Bucky Gunts, the man who directed the Opening Ceremony of 2010 Winter Olympics, won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Variety or Comedy Special at the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony. The ceremony, which was held in the Nokia Theater, was hosted by Jimmy Fallon and was broadcasted live, coast-to-coast.
The ceremony which opened the Winter Olympics on 12 February was attended by an audience of 50,000 and was watched by more than 2.5 million television viewers worldwide. The opening ceremony featured several acts which had the Canadian flavor, including Canadian singers such as Bryan Adams, Nelly Furtado, and Nikki Yanofsky, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and totem poles.
Ricky Gervais, the award announcer, announced the name of Bucky Gunts after making the best punchline (and perhaps a very controversial one) in his name. Bucky Gunts took the stage and accepted his award and gave an acceptance speech in ‘Super Dave Osborne’ tone. Gunts won the award by defeating Ron de Moraes, Joel Gallen, Louis Horvitz, and Glenn Weiss.
