Nan Martin, a stage, film, and television actress dies at the age of 82.
According to the details, Nan Martin died at her Malibu, California home on Thursday. She was 82. Her son, Casey Dolan, tells that she died of complication in emphysema. Nan Martin is survived by her husband, Harry Gesner; two sons, Casey Dolan and Zen Gesner; and three grandsons.
A veteran stage and television actress, Nan Martin, had performed in several Broadway productions. She is most famous for her acting credits in ‘J.B.’ and ‘Under the Yum-Yum Tree’. Nan Martin was nominated for her acting honors in the Broadway production, ‘J.B’. Nan Martin received nationwide exposure in the late 90’s when she appeared in the sitcom ‘The Drew Carrey Show’ as a mean-spirited boss, Mrs. Louder.
Born in Decatur, Ill, Nan Martin studied theater at UCLA. At the arts school, Nan Martin received attention through student productions. It was when she met Robert Dolan, a film producer, who asked Martin to sign a contract with Fox Studios. But Nan Martin, who had her heart into theater, went to New York instead and enrolled herself at Actor’s Lab and Max Reinhardt School.
In 1950, Nan Martin made her Broadway debut in a play, ‘A Story for a Sunday Evening’. Later, Nan Martin performed in several television productions and became a regular in ‘Shakespeare in the Park’ productions.
In 1976, Nan Martin returned to theater and appeared in ‘Eccentricities of a Nightingale’. In a New York Times review of the play, Nan Martin was highly praised for her acting.
Apart from TV and stage productions, Nan Martin has appeared in several film productions as well. ‘Toys in the Attic’, ‘Love of Ivy’, and ‘Shallow Hal’ are some of the films in which Nan Martin performed as an actress.
