Jeanne Eagles was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress after her sudden death in 1929 for her work in “The Letter” in the same year. Jeanne Eagles was the first lady who was nominated for Oscar after her death but according to the Oscar sources, her name was under consideration and she was not actually formally nominated for the posthumous Oscar nomination.

Jeanne Eagles was born to Julia Sullivan Eagles and Edward in Kansas City, Missouri. Several biographies have reported that her birth name was Amelia Jeanne Eagles but on record and the actual birth name was Eugenia Eagles.

Jeanne Eagles and her family was in trouble right from the beginning. Jeanne’s father died on 15th February 1910 in Kansas City when her mother was 44 year old with the responsibility to raise eight children. Jeanne Eagles completed her initial studies from St. Joseph’s parochial school and Morris Public School. Her domestic financial crises stopped her to attend school and she worked in a departmental store as a cash girl.

Jeanne Eagles started her career in early 1900s. In 1911 she moved to New York and worked in chorus lines and became a Ziegfeld Girl. Jeanne Eagles appeared in her first motion movie in 1915.

Jeanne Eagles returned to New York from a Broadway stage and taken straight to a private hospital for unknown reasons and there she died suddenly at the age of 39. The reason of her death had not been recorded or revealed by the medical examiners.
