Glenn Beck who is a Mormon has advised his zealot followers to avoid advocacy and preaching social justice on their churches’ website. On the other hand, Christian author Rev. Jim Wallice has censured the advice and comments of Glenn Beck and was of the view that Glenn Beck’s assault on the religion and churches that buttress social or economic justice does not make any sense to him.
Glenn Beck is of the view that the words “Social justice” or “economic justice” were actually used by the Nazis and communists and if a church advocated the same values it will be at par with their acts. These very comments of Glenn Beck are questionable in many respects. First of all, the pyramid of the United States of America rests on “freedom of speech and expression”. How come somebody advise against the most popular religious and social values and request to suppress such preaching?
If a gay couple kisses live on television, the advocates of freedom of speech acknowledge the act. On the other hand, if some body talks of social justice, the same people seem to snatch the freedom of expression meant for the welfare of the impoverished. What a hypocrisy it is.
The retaliation of Wallice is well-founded and backed by a reasonable rationale. Wallice was talking to Lawerence O’Donnell at the “Countdown” and told that the claims of Beck rest on the shaky platform when he says that social justice and gospel are in conflict with each other. He explained that social and economic justice is not something which is at war with the religious and Christian teachings rather Christianity is “based upon” the welfare of the poor and social justice.
